RSNA Booth #7117 - Novarad(R) announced today that it has integrated PHS Technologies Group, LLC’s DoseMonitor(TM) ionizing radiation dose monitoring software engine with its NovaPACS(TM) product, creating the NovaDose(TM) solution. Novarad is the first PACS company to integrate with DoseMonitor.

With NovaDose, users can directly access cumulative patient, exam and modality dose history from the PACS database. The software provides a robust alerting matrix to provide near-time visibility to potential excessive patient radiation dose before additional exposure occurs. Additionally, NovaDose provides dashboard reporting to allow users to analyze procedures and modalities.

“This new integrated product offering enables Novarad customers to address one of the most pressing healthcare challenges of tracking cumulative ionizing dose exposure from diagnostic imaging procedures,” said Steve Fowler, product marketing director at Novarad Corporation. “By teaming with PHS Technologies, we have created a combined system that works seamlessly together to provide healthcare providers with alerts to help prevent overexposure based on a maximum threshold as defined by the facility.”

DoseMonitor will automatically calculate a patient’s cumulative radiation dose and provide a customer-defined “red/yellow/green” type alerting system when an exam is ordered. In addition, by using DICOM data from NovaPACS, devices and examination procedures that no longer meet customer-determined dose specifications can be identified. The integration between the software platforms eliminates the need for facilities to have a separate server attached to the PACS for dose monitoring, reducing overall cost and providing significant flexibility for the customer.
