Healthcare IT news Oklahoma hospital to simplify IT and improve TCO with integrated Microsoft® platform

ATLANTA, Feb. 20, 2012 – McKesson today announced that Comanche County Memorial Hospital (CCMH) in Lawton, Okla., plans to deploy the company’s top-rated1 Paragon® hospital information system (HIS), known for enabling a broad range of hospitals and health systems to simplify their IT environments and reduce total cost of ownership (TCO). CCMH is one of several Horizon Clinicals® customers that have recently decided to migrate to Paragon, which offers a fully integrated clinical and financial HIS on a contemporary Microsoft platform.

“We’re proud of what we’ve accomplished with McKesson as our technology partner. With advanced clinical systems in place to safeguard our patients and caregivers, it was the right time for our organization to take steps toward a more integrated, lower-cost platform,” said Randy Segler, chief executive officer, Comanche County Memorial Hospital. “McKesson brings not only the expertise to help us with the IT roadmap, but also the strategic perspective for what will be required in the future.”

In December, McKesson announced Better Health 2020 to help its customers achieve better patient care, better business health and better connectivity in their communities. Critical success factors addressed by Better Health 2020 include capturing the value of core systems, reducing costs while improving quality, connecting and coordinating care, and managing advanced payment models. To support these market leading goals, McKesson is committing a billion dollars in research and development across its technology businesses during the next two years.

“Our support resources are finite, so our desire to reduce TCO and streamline our systems without compromising quality are key drivers for migrating to Paragon,” said David Blackmon, chief financial officer, Comanche County Memorial Hospital. CCMH’s decision to move to Paragon builds upon its rich history of using technology to further patient care and automate care delivery processes throughout its hospital. An early adopter of electronic health records and advanced revenue cycle systems, the 283-bed hospital also redesigned its pharmacy operations enterprise-wide to leverage McKesson’s pharmacy automation and distribution solutions.

“Comanche County has taken a very thoughtful yet ambitious approach to its use of technology,” said Jeremy Chandler, senior vice president, Customer Success, McKesson Provider Technologies. “This hospital illustrates what can happen when you combine a strong leadership team and dedicated staff with the right technology plan to support an organization’s top-line objectives.”
