Study Type, Agent and Dose?

Normal Perfusion Scan
Agent: 99mTc-Macroaggregated Albumin (MAA)
Adult Doses:3-4 mCi IV
Excretion: Phagocytosed by RES, then renal
Critical Organ: Lungs
Notes:
- MAA Shows lung perfusion by (temporarily) lodging in the pulmonary vascular bed, with physiologic breakdown in about 2-3 hrs
- Typically, no more than 400,000 particles should ever be administrated, and only 60,000 are required for good counting statistics
- Although the exact amount is debated (check current literature), some feel the number of particles should be reduced in pulmonary HTN, pregnancy, and neonates
- Note no tracheal activity with this study
