The Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) announced that the comment period for the Federal Health IT Strategic Plan: 2011 – 2015 has been extended to Friday, May 6, 11:59 p.m. (Eastern).

Earlier in March, ONC announced an open public comment period on the Strategic Plan. Developed in collaboration with other Federal partners, the Plan outlines ONC's strategy for realizing Congress and the Administration's health IT agenda. ONC is ready to receive all comments from the public regarding the Plan.

The Plan starts in 2011, when it became possible for eligible healthcare organizations that meet “meaningful use” of certified electronic health record (EHR) technology to receive incentive payments under the Medicare and Medicaid Electronic Health Record (EHR) Incentive Programs as authorized by the HITECH Act.
