The independent Worcestershire Imaging Centre (WIC) in Droitwich Spa has completed an upgrade of its MAGNETOM® Symphony MRI system from Siemens Healthcare. The upgrade saw the scanner virtually rebuilt to include Tim® (Total imaging matrix) technology allowing WIC to maintain its position as the only non-hospital-based MRI scanning facility in Worcestershire. Tim technology has increased the Symphony’s data processing and enhanced accuracy for workflow efficiency, as well as extending its working life to support evolving patient requirements.

Upgrading the system to Tim technology increases the number of channels as standard to 18, enabling excellent and rapid image quality through parallel imaging and coils with an enhanced signal to noise ratio. Upgraded MRI systems also benefit from expanded diagnostic capabilities, with optional applications such as syngo® NATIVE and syngo TWIST increasing the range of examinations. Systems upgraded with Tim technology also deliver increased throughput and productivity, with fast scanning and efficient examination times.

In addition to the Tim Application Suite of standard software, the MAGNETOM Symphony with Tim technology upgrade at Worcestershire Imaging Centre saw the introduction of a number of further updates and feature sets. These include Auto Coil Detect to automatically detect the position of fix-position and flexible-position receiving coils, DIXON for fat water imaging and 3D distortion correction for help in image composition.

“We pride ourselves on the personal service we give our patients, and we are very enthusiastic about this important upgrade to our MRI technology which is currently the most advanced MRI scanner in the county,” said Dr Peter Turner, Managing Director of the Worcestershire Imaging Centre.

“The Worcestershire Imaging Centre’s long history of providing MRI services to NHS and private patients across the county can now continue into the future, thanks to this expansive and comprehensive upgrade to its existing MAGNETOM Symphony from Siemens Healthcare,” said Darren Parker, Regional Sales Manager at Siemens Healthcare. “WIC’s rebuilt MAGNETOM Symphony with Tim technology offers an exciting set of applications across a broad set of diagnostic areas, enhancing workflow and patient throughput.”
