MAGNETOM SkyraMAGNETOM Skyra 3 Tesla from Siemens Healthcare increases hospital imaging capabilities

10 May-Kidderminster Hospital and Treatment Centre, part of Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust, has recently installed a MAGNETOM® Skyra 3 Tesla MRI system from Siemens Healthcare. Located in the Radiology Department, it has been acquired to assist with increasing imaging needs and to handle a multi-specialty workload.

The Skyra combines Tim® 4G (Total imaging matrix) and Dot™ (Day optimising throughput) technologies and offers excellent image quality. Tim technology improves MRI capabilities by increasing flexibility and accuracy, plus shortening acquisition times. Dot functionality facilitates a customisable framework for user guidance and examination automation, helping to streamline departmental workflow and providing rapid scanning. With a small footprint, the Skyra is an MRI solution that can be conveniently located in restricted spaces.

It also features a 70cm Open Bore design to accommodate a variety of patient physicalities and needs. It has been constructed to offer the greatest level of comfort for patients and an illuminated MoodLight is available for the system to enhance the clinical environment and reduce patient anxiety levels.

“We selected the MAGNETOM Skyra after extensively comparing different systems available on the market” stated Dr. Umesh Udeshi, Director of Radiology at Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust. “We’re familiar with Siemens’ systems so it was an obvious choice to ensure quick uptake on training by our radiographers. The installation process was smooth and ran to schedule and we are benefitting from improved image definition and increased departmental throughput. Patients have noticed the faster scanning times, staff find the system easy to use and the image quality we receive is exceptional.”

“We’re delighted that staff and patients at Kidderminster Hospital and Treatment Centre have experienced a real improvement in imaging since the installation of the MAGNETOM Skyra” said Darren Parker, Regional Sales Manager at Siemens Healthcare. “The system improves departmental efficiency and automates the examination process for increased productivity and staff ease-of-use. This system is both patient and operator friendly and does not compromise comfort for quality.”
