The first of four new imaging systems from Siemens Healthcare has been installed at Russells Hall Hospital, part of The Dudley Group NHS Foundation Trust. The Artis zeeTM ceiling-mounted system was unveiled as part of a new angiography suite opened by MP for Stourbridge, Margot James. It will be used for a wide range of diagnostic and Interventional Radiology procedures including endovascular aortic repairs (EVAR).

The Artis zee ceiling-mounted angiography system provides fast, high resolution images and includes advanced applications such as DynaCT, 3D soft tissue imaging to assist in optimum interventional practice and improved workflow efficiencies. The flexibility of the Artis zee’s rotating C-arm and flat detector enables full body coverage and easy patient access.

The flat detector can be used in the landscape or portrait orientation and rotated during the procedure, enabling different examinations to be carried out quickly and easily. The Artis’ complete portfolio of CARE features (Combined Applications to Reduce Exposure) ensure optimum Image quality at the lowest achievable dose for the operator and patients alike.

The hospital will add a floor mounted Artis zee, SOMATOM® Definition ASCT and SOMATOM Definition AS+ CT to the suite over coming months. The Definition AS+ provides a fast and accurate diagnosis to speed up examinations for traditionally difficult patients and the SOMATOM Definition AS is a highly adaptable system, designed to perform successfully across a range of patient types and imaging requirements. Both CT systems offer a wide bore, high spatial resolution and advanced scanning capabilities.

“The image quality from the Artis zee angiography system is exceptional and we have already seen a difference in workflow,” states Dr. Alec Wolinski, Consultant Radiologist at Russells Hall Hospital.  “We’re using the Artis zee ceiling-mounted system for a wide range of procedures in our new angiography suite, from EVAR and angioplasties, to stents and kidney procedures and we hope that the detailed image quality will enable us to extend the range of minimally invasive procedures we can offer patients. We have been hugely impressed by the image quality and the support from Siemens Healthcare. We also look forward to more partnership working on our new floor mounted Artis zee and CT systems over the next few months to develop our imaging capabilities further.”

MP for Stourbridge, Margot James, opens the new angiography suite at Russells Hall Hospital, part of The Dudley Group NHS Foundation Trust. The four new systems replace existing equipment as part of an 18-year Managed Equipment Service agreement (MES) with Siemens Healthcare. An MES partnership sets out a strategic approach to equipment provision and financial planning, guaranteeing the latest medical equipment and the ongoing maintenance of existing systems via a fixed annual charge. By ring-fencing investment for the life of the contract, all equipment concerns such as replacement and maintenance are taken care of through Siemens, as one point of contact.
