The provincial government has announced on Feb. 22 that it will spend $500,000 to fund CT services in the Kelsey Trail Health Region (KTHR). Glen Kozak, CEO of KTHR, said: "(The funding) is to look at renovations in the diagnostic department at the (diagnostic) facility."

Melfort Hospital is the diagnostic centre for the KTHR and, according to Kozak, strategic planning around diagnostic imaging was done about a year ago. It was decided earlier that the diagnostic centre for the health region would be Melfort. "I'd like to stress, this is a service for the Kelsey Trail Health Region," said Kozak. The exact location for the CT scanner has not been determined. "It'll probably be as close to the diagnostic imaging department as we can get it," said Kozak.

Rod Gantefoer, the MLA for the Melfort constituency, said: "This is a badly needed diagnostic tool that we haven't had to work with in our part of the world. So, I'm very pleased to see the government announce that they're starting the process in Melfort beginning with the $500,000 renovation to the existing facility so the physical CT scanner can be put in when the renovation is complete."
