GE Healthcare and its Russian manufacturing partner Meditsinskie technologii Ltd (MTL) have announced the first Russia's domestically assembled CT scanner.

This accomplishment represents an important forward step in the business future for both GE Healthcare and MTL because it is expected that the annual domestic Russian CT market could exceed 1.5 billion rubles (US$49 million).

Russia to develop its domestic healthcare technology.

This pioneer achievement was the result of collaborative efforts between GE Healthcare’s CT technology and MTL’s manufacturing capabilities. Domestic CT production fulfills the country’s main objective of economic modernization and domestic high-tech healthcare development as pointed out in policy announcements by the Russian government. Also supporting the joint venture is GE Healthcare’s state-of-the-art training center which has been founded in Moscow since 2009. The training center helps educate Russian medical professionals and improve their skills and experience with high-tech medical equipment. This is an additional proof of GE Healthcare’s commitment to localization in Russia.

Vyacheslav Grischenko, Region General Manager, Russia & CIS, GE Healthcare said: “Domestic production allows us to price high-tech equipment more affordably for Russian customers. This should increase access to health technology and reduce costs for the healthcare system, fully in line with our global healthymagination strategy to drive improvements in access, quality and cost in healthcare.” Grischenko continued: “Our joint-venture with MTL will be able to produce 100 CT scanners per year for the Russian market and meet the Russian healthcare system’s demand for CT.” Anatoly Dabagov, President of MTL, said: “The CT assembled at MTL’s facility in Moscow is the company’s flagship product. MTL currently carries out 25% of the manufacturing, given that we currently use imported parts. Further localization of manufacturing will evolve as local parts that comply with GE quality standards become available.”
