Agent: 99m Tc-Pyrophosphate
Adult Doses: 15 mCi IV
Excretion:  Renal
Critical organ:  Bladder
Notes:

  • If you initially though “bone scan”, you’re not far off, as PYP was one of the early bone-imaging agents
  • History, and uptake around the heart (on a presumably positive study) should allow for identification
  • Scan turns positive about 12 hrs. Post-infract, and reaches maximum uptake by about 72 hrs.
  • Diffuse uptake may be seen in myocarditis and other conditions
