Normal 99mTc-DTPA Shuntogram

Agent: 99mTc-Diethylenetriamine Pentaacetic (DTPA)
Adult Doses: 1 to 3 mCi into shunt reservior
Notes:

  • The shunt reservoir is injected for this study, under strict aseptic conditions
  • If the shunt is obstructed, radiopharmeceutical may reflux back into the ventricle
  • Clearance T1/2 is normally less than 10 minutes
  • In the abdoment, the radiopharmeceutical should spread around around the peritoneum; beware if it stays loculated, as this can be abnormal
