  • Most DVTs begin in the calf but can occur in the: femoral-popliteal veins, pelvic veins, intramuscular branches
  • Radiographically: US is initial imaging study of choice. Look for noncompressibility of vein, echogenic lumen, enlarged vein. Color Doppler allows differentiation of occlusive and nonocclusive thrombi. Venography considered gold standard.
