Normally Functioning Peritoneal-Venous Shunt
Agent: 99mTc-Macro-aggregated albumin (MAA)
Adult Doses: 5 mCi by paracentesis
Critical Organ: Lung
Notes:
- Shunts (e.g., LeVeen or Denver) may be placed between the peritoneum and the venous system, to help manage intractable ascites
- Radiopharmeceutical (MAA) is instilled into the peritoneum; any activity within the lungs (from the MAA) means the shunt is functioning normally
