  • Dx=meningioma.
  • Ddx=Another type of extra-axial tumor with imaging characteristics identical to meningioma, very vascular and is angioblastic in origin is hemangiopericytomas and meningeal hemangioblastomas.
  • Meningioma comprises approximately 15% of all intracranial tumors.
  • Peak incidence at 45 years.
  • The tumor is rare in patients less than 20 years unless the patient has neurofibromatosis.
  • Common sites for meningioma (in descending order of frequency) include: the convexity adjacent to the superior sagittal sinus, sphenoid ridge, cavernous sinus, tentorium, planum sphenoidale, clivus, cerebellopontine angle in the ventricles, along the optic nerve sheath, and (rarely) extracranial.
