Slipped Capital Femoral Epiphysis

Initial films showed only subtle indications of SCFE, mainly widening of the epiphysis

Frog-leg views demonstrated the step-off more clearly, and the final films showed later stage disease and operative repaire

Most commonly in overweight boys,8-17 year old (mean age 13 for boys, 11 for girls); remember LCPD occurs younger (4-8 year old) *Also seen with malnutrition, endocrine abnormalities, DDh

Complications: AVN, limb-length discrepancy, osteoarthritis

SCFE Information

Grading:
Mild = displayed by < 1/3 metaphyseal diameter

Moderate = displayed by 1/3 to 2/3 diameter

Severe = displayed by > 2/3 metaphyseal diameter
