The ESH meetings attract not only investigators, researchers, clinicians and others from all European countries but also many people with interests in hypertension from the Americas, Japan and Asia, the Middle-East and the rest of the World. The scientific agenda contains the most updated researches, controversies and consensuses in the field of clinical and experimental hypertension. Hypertension creates an interest over a broad range of medical specialties, from family medicine and general practice to the specialist fields of cardiology, nephrology, endocrinology and further on to physiology and pharmacology. Hypertension is closely related to various cardiovascular, endocrine and renal diseases both as a cause and a consequence. Hypertension is central in not only the so-called metabolic syndrome, diabetes and in obesity, but also in stress medicine, physiology and in epidemiology. There is an armament of drugs available for treatment of hypertension and new ones are reaching the market, increasingly in combination.
